The first in the Norwegian crime series featuring detective Harry Hole. I read "The Snowman" a couple years ago, so decided to backtrack to the beginning of the series. This was a good mystery, but it bogged down for me when Harry goes on his self-destructive tangents. This is only the second book I've read in the series, but I gather that's a large element in all of the books. Not sure if I have the patience for more...at least I know how to pronounce his last name now. It's "hoh-leh" not hole or holy....although, "Holy" is the pronunciation used by the Austrailian characters in this book.
