I got this good-condition hardcover at the Used Book Superstore in Burlington MA. It's a collection of essays examining connections between authors and scientists. Whitman's fascination with the body (colored by his experiences nursing the wounded during the Civil War), George Eliot's views on the mind's freedom contrasted with neurological discoveries, Escoffier's recipe for veal stock - a classic example of umami long before the concept was named, Proust's insights on memory compared to recent medical science, Paul Cezanne's artistry as contrasted with one of Oliver Sacks' patients who had a sensory problem that made him see the world in similarly surreal images... These and more comparisons between different arts and the sciences that reinforce and (sometimes) explain them are quite intriguing.

in this book from the medicine bookbox, the author shows that science isn't the only way to solve medical mysteries - artists, such as novelists, painters and composers can bring a lot to the understanding of the subject

this is likely to leave in the Sapphire release challenge
