I give this book 4 stars because it is different from so many books I have been reading and I really enjoyed it. It wasn't a fast read and it forced me to stop and think about what was happening. I like it when an author assumes the reader is intelligent and writes a novel that challenges the reader to think and infer and transform her thinking.
The diary of a 16 year old girl living in Japan washes up on the coast of Desolation Sound, BC. How did it get there? Where is Nao now? Questions Ruth must grapple with as she deals with her own life in a remote island community far from her New York life. How did Ruth get there? Where is Ruth now?
