Penderwicks are separated for two weeks in the summer. Father and his new wife, Iantha, are off on their honeymoon. Rosalind is invited to join friends at the shore in New Jersey. The remaining sisters are going to Aunt Claire's summer rental called the Birches, making Skye the OAP (Oldest Available Penderwick). Joined by their friend, Jeffrey, the family meets the man and his dog who live next door, as well as kids who stay with their grandmother who runs the Inn.

I seem to be collecting books about the Penderwicks at the moment; at some point I should actually read them! (I see that the author's website compares these books to those of Noel Streatfeild and Edward Eager, so that sounds promising.)
