This book is set in the early 20th century in Iceland and is about the simple sheep farmer Bjartur who wants to be independent of the large farmers. It tells the ups and downs of his farm in remote Iceland and of his family. A special story is the complicated but hart warming relation with his daughter.

I really loved this book. It describe the world and thinking of farmers perfectly while set in the beautiful and rugged background of Iceland.
