There is an expectation in our culture that childhood should be a time of wonder. We hope it is but children are not always protected from harsh reality. Many like Travis have to assume responsibility and make heartbreaking decisions. Today is St. Nicholas' Day, a very festive time in Europe when children are particularly celebrated. So I have decided to register this book in celebration of children and their patron St. Nicholas. Including it here is my quiet prayer for children who have to fend for themselves. May they find strength as Travis does in this book.
