Day Four
5 journalers for this copy...
Four days into a five day singles cruise on the Gulf of Mexico, the ageing ship Beautiful Dreamer stops dead in the water. With no electricity and no cellular signals, the passengers and crew have no way to call for help. But everyone is certain that rescue teams will come looking for them soon. All they have to do is wait.
That is, until the toilets stop working and the food begins to run out. When the body of a woman is discovered in her cabin the passengers start to panic. There's a murderer on board the Beautiful Dreamer... and maybe something worse...
The fourth is going to be hell.
I loved everything about this book!
First of all, I really liked the appearance - the cover art, the blue edged pages....& I loved the ticket-reservation which was a really nice touch & made a perfect bookmark! But as we all know you shouldn't judge a book by its cover so would the story be as enticing?
Yes it was, I loved it! The basic premise of the tale is four days into a cruise, disaster strikes when the ships generator fails meaning no electricity & no way to call for help. At the same time a murder is discovered & Celine del Ray, a psychic medium, has a very strange turn. As supplies run low, tempers fray & fear spreads with rumours of the crew seeing ghosts. I won't say too much for fear of spoiling it for future readers but the tension builds beautifully & the claustrophobic atmosphere of the ship is very convincing.
The story is told by a number of narrators & I particularly liked the way each character had their own nickname The Devil's Handmaiden, The Witches Assistant etc which headed their relevant chapter. The later news bulletins & interviews bought another dimension to the story. While the whole story was pretty creepy & eerie, I found these interviews to be quite chilling!
I'm not sure whether its a horror or a thriller - a "chiller" maybe? - but I do know I found it thoroughly entertaining & I will be hunting down a copy of it's prequel "The Three"
Oh....& the last two lines are perfect ;o)

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Like the characters, I kept guessing what had happened to to cruise ship, and got pretty close but there were still parts in the end which managed to surprise me. Maybe if I hadn't read "The Three" first, I've been more amazed by the end solution. Anyway, I recommend that you'll read the books together since they are basically the same story in two volumes.
