I received this while I was staying at a hotel in Osaka, Thanx AsianWaterfall for your speedy read and delivery! I really enjoyed this. I loved the flashback chapters and enjoyed the character development. It made me think of my mother, too. I often wonder what it was about a person's upbringing that makes them do or think or act the way they do. That's mostly what this book is about, how one's history effects them.

I'm releasing this at the International Centre (seventh floor) library in Takaoka-Shi. If you're in Takaoka, it's to the north of the JR station, and I'll try to give more specific directions to it when I have more time.

Well, I had to rescue my book because they were downsizing the library and getting ready to throw books out. (the horror!) So, I picked it up again, and ended up promising it to another bookcrosser who had it on her wishlist. It's in the mail now, and ought to find her soon, I hope! Enjoy!

I didn't read this one. I tried reading another Amy Tan novel and found that her themes just aren't my kind of reading. Too sentimental and a bit boring for my tastes.
