My old friend and co-worker from the Academic Bookstore (some 28 years ago), Elisabeth, introduced me to the world of Lillian Beckwith. I have all her Hebridean books, some duplicats even, as there are always people who have not found Ms Beckwith yet. This particular book you are holding comes from a charming Croatian town called Split where an Australian chap called Peter [Pieter in Croatian] holds an internet cafe cum second-hand bookshop. I was fortunate enough to go on a sea cruise on the Adriatic Sea last easter, sailing along the Croatian coastline (starting and ending at Venice, though). To find Ms Beckwith there was such a surprise that I felt I had to rescue her. I wish the book could tell how it ended up there. From now on we will know more about its journeys, as You, Dear New Reader, will hopefully let me and those who come after me, know where she resides.
I'm sending this as a belated birthday gift to America, as there is somebody who loves a good biography set on British soil. Enjoy!
