I visited Shakespeare & Company -bookshop in Vienna last week and bought this for myself as a souvenir :)
From the back cover:
"It is the late 1960s in Ireland. Nora Webster is living in a small town, looking after her four children, trying to rebuild her life after the death of her husband. She is fiercely intelligent, at times difficult and impatient, at times kind, but she is trapped by her circumstances, and waiting for any chance which will lift her beyond them. Colm Toibin's Nora is a character as resonant as Anna Karenina or Madame Bovary and Nora Websteris a novel that illuminates our own lives in a way that is rare in literature. Its humanity and compassion forge an unforgettable reading experience."

I had a possibility to visit Ireland and Northern Ireland last week and it was natural to choose to read a book located to Ireland just now. I loved this story, which was simple and modest in a way, but full of huge emotions as well. The grieving process of Nora was brilliantly described and I liked the way Nora grew stronger and found her own way to live in somewhat strict and small surroundings. I don't know if I really liked Nora, but Tóibín made her really alive and familiar and I sort of miss her when I've finished the book.

Wow, what a great surprise! A wishlist book, a Colm Tóibín book — I'm speechless. Thank you ever so much, lukutuoli!
ETA (on 7th September, 2018) that I'm planning to host Palkintokaappi (award winners/nominees VBB) again this autumn. I'm going through my shelves hopig to find some potential candidates for the VBB. Nora Webster is one of them:
