Journal Entry 1 by ReetPetite from Beeston, Nottinghamshire United Kingdom on Saturday, February 14, 2015
On 12 October 1979 the most remarkable book ever to come out of the great publishing corporations of Ursa Minor (and Earth) was made available to humanity – The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
It’s an ordinary Thursday lunchtime for Arthur Dent until his house gets demolished. The Earth follows shortly afterwards to make way for a new hyperspace bypass and his best friend has just announced that he’s an alien. At this moment, they’re hurtling through space with nothing but their towels and an innocuous-looking book inscribed with the big, friendly words: DON’T PANIC.
The weekend has only just begun…

You know you're a real bookcrosser when...

...you pop downtown at a convention just to buy an extra suitcase to manage to bring all the books you like to bring back home! Guilty as charged! :-)

I must admit I have a copy of the The Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy already. However, they're all collected in to one large hardback copy, and the is pretty much the reason why I still haven't read them. *hangs head in shame* So, for that very reason I am taking all the books with me back to Norway after the bookcrossing convention in Oxford - was so thrilled to see them all as smaller paperback copies. Now they will be easier to "drag around".

This is probably one of the most hyped up SFF books I know of. I've have heard so much about it from other people in fandom, and have been frowned upon for not having read it. I finally got around to read the fist book in the "thrilogy" earlier this year, but must admit it wasn't quite my cup of tea. It was a little bit funny from time to time (mostly Marvin), but I have to say it was a disappointment. After having heard about how hilarious it was, etc, it simply didn't live up to my expectations.

I haven't decided whether to read the rest of the books or not yet, we'll see...

I had high expectations when I started on the book. Like lunacia I was a bit disappointed. Not as funny as I expected. Anyway, I liked it well enough to give book no 2 a chance; only not just yet.

Met up with Lunacia for a coffee today, and got the books. Due to studies, it will probably take some time before I get round to read them.

Journal Entry 10 by wingHaugtussawing at Stavanger, Rogaland fylke Norway on Friday, June 11, 2021
I have finished the first book, and have to agree with Lunacia and Sota - I had expected more.
I loved the start though, where the reason why people are happy are explained.
Will I read the next? I don't know yet - this one has taken me over a year to get through....
