A book that was judged scandalous when published (1899), because it describes a young woman of New Orleans' upper class turning her back to the narrow world defined by her role as spouse, mother, hostess. Her vague aspirations, desire for greater independance, awakening to sensuality hit the impossible wall of what her position in society expects of her. Beautiful fluid style, interesting description of the Creole upper class.
I'm sending this book to k-line to celebrate my 3 years with Bookcrossing.
Happy reading.
