So I've just replied to a stuttering ring on the doorbell and I found my postie leaning against the stair banister holding out a parcel, ooooh I croon with eyes only for the parcel. Clearly a stack of books. We bookcrossers are well able to divine parcel content by a mere glance, it’s like a superpower! ‘This will never fit through your letterbox’ he chuckles handing over the book treasure! WooHoo this book arrived along with The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa - & - Dead in the Family by Charlaine Harris, thanks chucklesthescot.
Synopsis: After the 1st wave, only darkness remains. After the 2nd, only the lucky escape. And after the 3rd, only the unlucky survive. After the 4th wave, only one rule applies: trust no one.
Now, it's the dawn of the 5th wave, and on a lonely stretch of highway, Cassie runs from Them. The beings who only look human, who roam the countryside killing anyone they see. Who have scattered Earth's last survivors. To stay alone is to stay alive, Cassie believes, until she meets Evan Walker. Beguiling and mysterious, Evan Walker may be Cassie's only hope for rescuing her brother - or even saving herself. But Cassie must choose: between trust and despair, between defiance and surrender, between life and death. To give up or to get up.
---------------------
Crumbs, The 5th Wave was as exhilarating as a ride on the back of a Storm-trooper transport. A rush of a read that banishes the memory of mealtimes and demands to be read till you drop. An apocalyptic whoosh of a tale which has a whole “I like the smell of napalm in the morning” slice of darkness riding its tail. Two children stumble through exceptionally scary times, doing their best to hold onto each other, as the world falls into chaos around them… Where and what are the aliens exactly and what is the expected 5th wave…

Wow - I had little idea of what to expect having forgotten the book blurb but ferreting through my books piles with a mission to check out if I had any suitable books for a BC gift giving scheme this came to hand in November and I decided on the spur of the moment to read it and discovered The 5th Wave to be a rip-roaring adventure that left me gasping, and I thought it may be right up the street of another reader. (My fingers are well-and truly crossed, and in fact I am also holding onto some wood and hoping a black cat crosses my path… and all of that…)
I shall be popping this into the post, within the next couple of days, for my partner in the Not-So-Secret-Father-Christmas-Surprise 2014 BC UK Yahoo Groups, gift giving event. Christmas paper selected for wrapping this should be off soon accompanied by a couple more books and some Festive Season decorations & some handy dandy crafting materials. Who knows there maybe even a tiny spot of chocolate included in this parcel! Woo Hoo!
FESTIVE GREETINGS including best wishes for a GRAND NEW YEAR, “Lang may yer lum reek” from NORTH OF THE BORDER!

Ooh, a rip-roaring adventure eh? I like them!
Well, I'm not sure what to say about this. There were chapters when I couldn't put it down, then there were sections where I lost interest. I think overall, I enjoyed it.
Took this from my mum's availables for my NSSEB partner.
To my NSSEB partner. I hope you like your parcel.

Always good to get a book I wouldn't normally pick to read. I am a creature of habit and need my horizons expanded from time to time! Thanks Icemaiden, I look forward to reading it.

I became gripped by this book pretty quickly and then read it quickly as I wanted to know what was going to happen to all the characters. I got a little bit confused by some of the detail but was able to focus on the "human" aspects.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
sent to Canada as a book trade. Enjoy the book!
This book has now travelled across the ocean and found its way to Canada. Thank you so much Poodlesister for sending this along! I also really appreciate the bookplates and stickers, those are always much needed around here.
When an alien spaceship comes in to Earth's orbit and fails to contact, people know this isn't going to end well. The first wave cut the lights, the second destroyed the coasts, the third killed the majority of the population, the fourth made it impossible to trust anyone and the it's just a matter of time before the fifth wave starts. Cassie and her brother survive the fourth wave but get separated from each other and Cassie promises him that she'll find him. Knowing that she's being hunted and not being able to trust anyone, Cassie has to figure out how to find her brother.
I immediately was sucked in to this book, though found that I connected more with the story than with the characters. I wanted to know what happened, what the waves were, and what the aliens wanted. Cassie was a vessel to get me that information but I didn't really care for her as a character. The main issue I had with her was the weird love triangle that occurred through at least half of the book. It didn't make a whole lot of sense and felt rather childish.
Putting aside this, I still really enjoyed the novel because of its unique premise and will find the next book in the series to read.
