D is for Deadbeat: A Kinsey Millhone Mystery

Looking for books to release on the 20th September during the UK, BOOK BLITZ RELEASE WALK, and this I have already read and enjoyed so I’m happy to have found a copy to give away! “Woo Hoo - Turning the world into a library through BookCrossing!!!”
---------------------
Book cover: ‘My name is Kinsey Millhone. I’m a private investigator… female, single and self-employed, with a constitutional inability to work for anyone else. I’m a purist when it comes to justice, but I’ll lie at the drop of a hat. Inconsistency has never troubled me…’
It was late October, the date before Halloween. He introduced himself as Alvin Limardo, which wasn’t his real name. The job he hired Kinsey to do seemed simple enough… until his cheque bounced. By the time she caught up with him he was dead and Kinsey had collected far more than she’d bargained for…
D IS FOR DEADBEAT (Kinsey Millhone Mystery 4) by SUE GRAFTON (1987) | ISBN: 0330315854 / 9780330315852 | Publisher: Pan (Oct 2004 - pages: 336)
---------------------
My review notes from July 2008: As the Guardian review says “D is for deft and diverting.” This is a dextrous mix of the scariness of putting yourself in the path of danger and the tediousness of investigatory work, told with wry humour. The writing here as in her other works is highlighted by a compassionate eye, some of the crimes being viewed as poignant tragedy rather than merely heartless viciousness. A mention of paper work carried out a portable typewriter reminded me of my early office life and how ubiquitous computers are nowadays. I was also amused, forgetting that this book was first published in 1987, that there was no mention of a mobile phone that other universal tool of today. So I anticipate the introduction of both these tools in later books and look forward to see how they are incorporated into Kinsey Millhone’s investigatory adventures. Sue Grafton’s alphabetical series is great for hauling around on your travels and reading whenever you get the time, I’ve been enjoying it on the bus.

Rainbow3 was planning on releasing this on the Book Blitz Release Walk but I'm afraid I got there first.
This is the fourth book in the Kinsey Millhone series, and I feel that I'm really getting to know Kinsey, and how she reacts to situations. Sue Grafton writes some delicious descriptive prose which gives a real life sparkle to her words, and makes the story very real.
Passed on in the spiral at the Bordeaux Convention.
Please check the forum for the order of posting because it has been changing due to people dropping out.

Safely picked up with thanks :) Fingers crossed to see what happened to the C ..
The series keeps getting better and better and I am so glad I joined this spiral, thank you. The book is ready to travel.
The tension was nice and I liked the plot twists. I appreciate the way the author does not steer away from the unpleasantness of life. In a book with a high head count, both in and out of the novel's timeframe, what resounds is the advice not to judge others, even in the depth of their fatal mistakes. Most of the characters, if not all, are broken in various ways by the events that shape them, yet empathy is easy to come by even in their darkest hours.

Off to the next reader. Enjoy!
Thanks very much.
