This book was among the generous boxes-o-books that BCer tobysrus brought me on this very hot day, as part of her downsizing/decluttering efforts. It's by the author of the acclaimed House of Sand and Fog - but I admit that neither that novel nor this one piques my interest, so I'll pass it along and hope it finds the right reader.
