Chris Bohjalian has a way of telling a story that completely sucks you in.
Leland, a prosecutor, has been battling a cold and sore throat for a long time and nothing seems to work to make the cold go away. On a whim, he visits a homeopath to help him feel better. Oh boy, does she make him feel better... not only does his cold go away, but he finds himself magnetically drawn to her and may even be falling in love with her.
Around the same time Leland meets Carissa for a cure, another one of her patients falls into an allergy-induced coma. His wife, Jennifer, is positive the coma is a result of the "medical" advice received from his homeopath. Jennifer is looking for answers and accountability for her husband's condition. She engages the prosecutor's office to determine if there is any recourse.
Leland is torn. He is newly in love with a woman who may or may not be prosecuted for a crime. What is he to do?
