This book is appropriately titled: it contains stories about love - and also longing - in Bombay. I must say, Vikram Chandra has a way with words, he has a beautiful voice. Some of his stories tell good tales, too. My favorite was the first one - Dharma.

This is the second Chandra book I've tried, the first was the highly acclaimed novel, "Red Earth and Pouring Rain". I saw the beauty in REPR and loved the idea of the type-writing monkey, but I got lost in the details of the story and didn't finish the book. Similarly, I couldn't finish many of the short stories in "Bombay". Ultimately, I'm not sure Chandra is for me but right now I'm a sucker for trying all things Indian (thanks to Bollywood megastar Aamir Khan).

I picked up one more Chandra book for later: Sacred Games - but it's 900-page length seems a bit daunting.

I released this book at an appropriately named restaurant - Bombay Hall.
I left it on a windowsill near the entry door.

Also, the buffet at Bombay Hall is really excellent: I recommend this buffet for lovers of Indian food. The posters of the Bollywood actresses adorning each table top are quite charming, too!
