The splinter book choice for August. A good sign I started reading immediately and was hooked!
(19/08/14) This generated some quite interesting discussions about the psychology of 'mind control' versus more subtle arts of persuasion and resistance. Most of us liked the book, but found the time-line a bit frustrating, and the jumps back and forth adding unnecessary confusion. Of the Poets I liked Eliot most, and his internal battle between the cold ascetism (?) of his chosen life and the emotion and love that he had given up. The whole magical realism of the lexicon of powerful words and the grand-daddy of them all the mysterious 'bareword' stretched credibility a bit. But, this is fiction and it gave some interesting insights into the human condition, control & manipulation, as well as fuelling the fire of conspiracy theorists. A good choice :)
