Alexie's prose is sometimes surprising, often witty and always entertaining. He introduces a passel of interesting characters and shows us how they cope with their lives. This collection of short stories was a very good read and it will soon travel on.
Quotable Quotes
• I believe human beings would rather hop in bed with each other and do tender things to each other than run through the jungle and shoot each other.
(The Search Engine, p. 23)
• Her Eden was a used-book store. In the beginning, there was the word, and the word was on sale at the local book store.
(The Search Engine, p. 49)
• William loved and respected his wife, and delighted in her intelligence, humor, and kindness, but he also loved to watch her lovely ass when she walked, and stare down the front of her loose shirts when she leaned over, and grab her breasts at wildly inappropriate times - during dinner parties and piano recitals and uncontrolled intersections, for instance. He constantly made passes at her, not necessarily expecting to be successful, but to remind her he still desired her and was excited by the thought of her.
(Flight Patterns, p. 105)
• The two funniest tribes I've ever been around are Indians and Jews, so I guess that says something about the inherent humor of genocide.
(What You Pawn I Will Redeem, p. 187)
• Oh man, he loved her, and he felt like crying yet again. Oh, he was young and worshipful and sentimental, and he didn't know it, but his mother would always want her son to be young and worshipful and sentimental. She prayed that the world, filled with its cruel people and crueler philosophies, would not punish her son too harshly for being so kind and so receptive to kindness.
(What Ever Happened to Frank Snake Church, p. 221)
