The book of the film, looks like fun, part of a multi-buy offer in a Chorley charity shop.

(29/11/14) This was a perfect book for my and Mrs. BGM to read on our Kerala tour. Although the Marigold is set in Bangalore, east and north of the self-named ‘God’s Own Country’ (now where have I heard that before!), its all very familiar. Moggach brilliantly portrays the noise, colour, poverty and sheer overwhelming India experience. And what a brilliant device to take this motley collection of Brits overseas to an alien land to live out their senior lives, loves, quiet desperations and joyful enlightenments. Like a ‘hotel’ all human life is here, not a retirement home, as none of the inmates(!) is ready to lie down and let life happen to them. I won’t go into any plot specifics, but after some meanderings (again an Indian national trait) most of the loose ends are tied up, and there’s no doubt space for a sequel? Now to see the film!

A perfect place to leave this book, in the bookshelf for the other 'retreat-ers'.
