Published in 1899, Kate Chopin was a woman ahead of her time. This novel, read at different times in one's life will evoke different reactions. When I read it in my 20's I had great empathy for the protaganist, now, in my 50's I feel she's a spoiled brat, but either way, it is a look at the role society has in shaping it's members and what it takes, or took, for one woman to release herself from it's grip.
This is a short book, worth reading.
