A very quick, very sweet, little read.
Caught at the Edinburgh meet up. This looks brilliant.
This book is basically an outpouring from an underappreciated librarian. It means that you can read it in quite a short time. I really loved some of the points the main character was making, especially the importance of making people feel welcome in institutions like libraries.

The Library of Unrequited Love by Sophie Divry - OK
Less a novella than a short story. Less a short story than a stream of consciousness that barely pauses for breath.
The Librarian opens up one morning to find a man sleeping who was accidently locked in overnight. She then proceeds to talk at him, 19 to the dozen, hopping from one subject to another, without pause, but always circling back to the mysterious Martin who is the unrequited love of the title.
No chapters, no paragraphs. Really quite difficult to read unless you can spend the time to read it in one sitting as it really doesn't have any logical pause points where you can put it down and return, but that's what I had to do and that's possibly why I found it a little difficult to read.

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to journal this, I put all my BC books in my suitcase intending to journal everything when I got home, but my suitcase has only just made it home, a week after I returned!

It shouldn't have taken me as long to read this as it did, it was one of those books that when I was reading it I was enjoying it, but I didn't always want to pick it up. Thankfully it was on a topic very close to my heart!
I particularly liked this quote:
"You know, in my job, there's nothing more exciting, that makes you feel more wanted, than to be able to size up the person in front of you, guess what they're after, find the book they need on the shelves and bring the two together. In theory a quick read but it didn't really do it for me... just a rather long and dull monologue. I got about half way through, cast it aside and it's taken me some months to come back to it.
There were a couple of phases and thoughts that I liked, mainly around the satisfaction of finding the right thing for the right reader, but overall a bit meh.
Finally finished and I'm sending it on its way. Hope the next reader enjoys it more than I did.
