Pete Goss competed in the 1996-1997 Vendee Globe - a non-stop, 'single-handed' sail from France, around the Southern Ocean (
Antarctica), back to France. He interrupted his voyage to save another competitor from the icey ocean, but still managed to complete the trip.

5/19/04 - Finished this last night - loved it! I think I have a crush on Pete Goss :-) This book is about his life leading up to the VG, not just that one race. How he got into sailing, his early races, how difficult it is to put a boat into the water for one of these big races....really interesting and written in a very "chatty" style. Very cool- thanks for the loan!

Holy Cow! I came home from work and found almost a whole summer worth of sailing reading! I'm in my glory! (And - I'm going up to Maine next week to pickup my sailboat so I'll actually get some REAL sailing in!!!)
