"Through Siberia by Accident is an account of a journey that didn’t happen—and what happened instead. While still thousands of miles from her original destination, Ussuriland in the Russian Far East, Dervla Murphy found herself stymied by multiple minor injuries. This book is an extraordinary story of fortitude and resourcefulness as Murphy finds friendship and culture in one of the world’s bleakest, most inhospitable regions."

I've been saving this book just in case I would make it to Trans-Siberian one day, but... the older I get the less likely I'm going to feel like doing it, so I'll just 'sacrifice' this during these Corona times when I can't actually travel ANYWHERE myself.
Dervla Murphy is my travel hero, sort of. She has some excellent stories to tell and a brilliant attitude. She's also really knowledgeable, which also means that sometimes so much information is included that parts of the book turn a bit tedious, but it doesn't take long until there's another weird incident or an eccentric person around her to describe...
Murphy is 88 now and unlikely to travel anymore, but luckily there are plenty of her books left that I haven't had a chance to read yet!

I might have a paperback copy of this at home, but if so, there will be a new reader for this as well.
Gave this to my second cousin's American husband who wondered how does one travel through Siberia by accident. One more accident to be afraid of!
Very good travelogue by a 70-plus year old adventurer. She travels through Siberia in the early 2000's, a mysterious place for us westerners, without speaking a word of Russian. She meets many of the locals, and reveals the humanity and goodness of people in Russia. This is a useful reminder, given recent world events.,
