Out of the Hitler Time

Anna was a German child wehn she had to flee from the Nazis before the War. By the time the bombs began to fall she was a stateless adolescent in London, and after it was all over she became a happily married Englisch-woman who had put the past behind her - or so she thought.
In Judith Kerr's internationally acclaimed trilogy When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, Bombs on Aunt Dainty and A Small Person Far Away, we see the world through Anna's eyes as she grows up - from her much loved family to Hitler's holocaust.

I've already finished this book some weeks ago and liked very much the first part "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit". I read the German version of this volume at school when I was about eleven years old. Even if the background of the story is a very sad one, I could read this over and over again.
The second volume with a nearly grown-up Anna is also not bad. But I had to force myself a bit to get over the first pages which seemed to me kind of boring. I first had got accustomed to the older Anna who lost the cuteness of her childhood. The second part lacks the humour of the first one.
The third volume has some lengths in my opinion. It mainly focuses on the illness of Anna's mother and her relationship to the rest of the family. The book gives information about the adult lifes of Anna and Max and puts a good end to the trilogy.
