05/23/14. This is an epic novel that follows the life of Eileen Tumulty from 1941 to the present. Growing up in Queens, NY she has always dreamed of bettering herself from her meager beginnings. When she meets Ed Leary she believes he is her chance for the life she dreams of. Ed is not as ambitious as Eileen, but eventually she gets the house and the neighborhood that she has dreamed of. Unfortunately at almost the same time Ed, at the age of 51 is diagnosed with Alzheimer's and EIleen's world is turned upside down. In addition to this, their son Connell has a very difficult time coming to grips with his fathers disease, leaving most of the care to Eileen alone.
At times this story is heartbreaking, but it is also a story of love and hope.
I will recommend this to my book club, but at 620 pages I have a feeling they will decline.
