12 Years a Slave

Welcome to BookCrossing!
Thanks for taking the time to read my journal. The book you've found is now yours, no strings attached! You can keep it forever or read it and pass it along like I did. It would be great though, if you could take the time to write a quick note so that I know it found a new home. You can stay annoynomous or sign up. It is free to join and no one gets your email address (plus no spam). If you sign up you will also get notifications if anyone else journals about this book, which is exciting. Please consider using Crossing-Guard as your referring member if you do sign up. Who knows how far this book will travel...
I got this off of Amazon as it is April's Bookies book.

I was pleased that this was picked as April's Bookies book of the month as I think this was one of those books that you should read, just to remember and pay respect to those that were in slavery or still are. What I didn't expect was to be sucked in so that I just had to keep reading. I'm not sure I would go so far to say that I "enjoyed" the book but I did learn a lot and could appreciate that this was a well written book. Like the "Book of Negroes" the author hinted at his salvation and things getting better when things seemed the worst, this kept me reading as I knew that life was going to improve...
I will hold onto this for the BookCrossing Calgary's number themed meeting (June).

Taking to the "everyone has a story" meeting. This is such a hard book to read but so very important. This memoir should be required reading...

I was passed this book at the Nov. meetup. Now that I have it in my hands, I will read the book before I watch the movie.
Shoot, looks like I was wrong at the meeting and I did already read this!
realised when I picked it up I'd already read it.
Taken to the July meeting!

I have come home from the July meet up at Cravings with a reasonable amount of books for a change!
I listened to the downloadable version of this. When I had it expire partway through, I let it go for a while as I found it emotionally draining. These stories are hard to hear, but important. It is hard to imagine being a free man and having that taken away from you. Glad I borrowed it again and listened to the rest.
I am taking this to the February meetup at Cravings to pass on to the next reader.
Picked up at the February meeting
Powerful story about one man's first-hand experience with slavery. My only complaint is that the author was constantly giving "spoiler alerts".
Picked up at the Nov. 2022 Book Crossing meet up
