The Enemy is a prequel to other Reacher books and sees Reacher serving in the Military Police just after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

As usual, there's fast-paced action and several plots twists to keep you on your toes. Not the best of the series, in my opinion, but a gripping read nevertheless featuring one of my favourite characters.

I loved this . . . well thought out, and a surprise that it is written in the first person: Jack Reacher himself is telling the tale. It works well - a tribute to Lee Child's talent.
I liked Lieutenant Summer, I liked that the bad guys and good guys couldn't be identified until towards the end . . . but I "got it" about Kramer's lover almost from the start!

Thanks Crazy Plum.

Thank you Est. for knowing my bookshelf better than me, and for feeding my guilty reading habit!

(28/11/15) Includes spoilers

No.8 of the series, and time for a slight digression from Reacher’s kick-ass tour around the USofA. We return to an important point in Jack’s past, New Year 1990, an army base in North Carolina and the death toll mounts on our hero’s watch. Reacher is unwittingly caught in an internal army battle for the post-Soviet future. Corruption runs through the ranks up to the very top, so our man has to go ‘off radar’ with Summer schlepping across America and Europe to solve the puzzle of Kramer and the missing agenda, his dead wife, the dead man in the woods etc. etc.

Of course the whole thing is too complicated – and improbable – to explain here. But the net result is a major blot on his copybook and the early signs of dissatisfaction and a post-MP future as a vigilante. We also meet up with Reacher’s older brother Joe (briefly featured in the first book), and their mother in France.

Looking forward to coming back up to date with no.9 :)
