This is a wild story, a truly screwy, funny, and scary tale that includes both modern life and fantasy. Pretty different from other Gaiman books.
"Nothing links person to person like the frequent passage from hand to hand of a good book."
A wandering book -- the karma of literature!

Taken from the box, since is a book I have somehow never read. I honestly never got into Gaiman's writing, so if this is a bit different than his usual, that could be a plus for me!
I definitely liked this better than the other books I've tried by Gaiman!
The humor was excellent, using wordy (nerdy?) storyteller-influenced misdirection, involving a lot of descriptive comparisons, tongue-in-check quips, and a fondness for taking ordinary situations and pushing them to an absurd limit. I actually laughed aloud a couple times, and there were plenty of bits that made me grin and/or snort.
I still wasn't totally sold on most of the characters, but since this feels like a twist on classic fables, the flatness of the characters didn't bother me as much as it would in a more descriptive, narrative book. After all, they do exist just to propel a story!
All in all, this was a good vacation read!
