Written from the perspective of a 5 year old child, imprisoned in a single room since birth, with his mother. Because of the style of language it takes effort to persist, a five year old isn't going to have an expansive vocabulary. So it seems slow and repetitive but well worth sticking with.

When I saw this book at the BC monthly meet up on Tuesday others recommended it - obviously they had read other copies - so I caught it quickly.

If John Boyne, author of "The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas" could say 'One of the most profoundly affecting books I've read in a long time' that is a great recommendation from him.

The Daily Mail wrote 'Heart-burstingly, gut-wrenchingly compassionate'.
I shall soon see.

I really loved this book.
I thought the education that Jack had been given by his mother, confined in one small room was masterly. Many 5 year-olds in our own country go to school unable even to write their own names; Jack actually did have quite an extensive vocabulary and understood many concepts well beyond his years.
It was a book I couldn't put down as I was so keen to see how events, if any, would unfold.
I won't comment too much in case it seems like spoilers but there is just so much in the later part of the book that could or would give rise to extensive discussion.
As I said - I loved it and have no hesitation in recommending to others, especially people interested in education.

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:

Sending by post to one of the members of the Karori Book Discussion which is a place where I have had several years of pleasure discussing a great variety of books. As I'll be away for a couple of meetings I am posting this to one of our members and if it happens to circulate a bit while I am away then maybe we could spare a few minutes once I'm back to talk about it.

Once I'm back I would like to release it further out into the world of bookcrossers once again.

Journal Entry 5 by Sherlockfan at Upper Hutt, Wellington Province New Zealand on Sunday, December 2, 2018
This book was returned to me by our daughter - how she obtained it I really don't know and didn't ask her.
Sincere apologies for taking so long to send it on its travels. Next Sunday I'm meeting with a group of Wellington Bookcrossers have a Christmas lunch meeting so will see if anyone would like to read it - otherwise I'll release it somewhere in Wellington when out and about.
