Daniel finds himself trapped in Tokyo after he loses his passport. He's working illegally in a language school with a boss who refuses to pay his salary and is in a dead-end relationship with a Japanese girl. But that's only the start of his troubles. When Keiko's family decide to pressure him into a marriage with their daughter they set out to take over his life.
I read this a while ago and it did not make quite the impression Kneales other book, The English Passengers did, which is one of my favourite books ever.

I thought this was a bit depressing book to read...reading it made me somewhat anxious... or maybe it is just because of the heat here that I think I should read "easier" books at the moment:) Nevertheless the book was well-written and it made me curious about the author's other books.

This was a strange little story, not sure what to think of it. I didn't like the main character, Daniel, very much. Things seemed to move around in circles, not really going anywhere until near the end where it all escalated in a rather tragic ending.
