Being a big fan of Anne Tyler's writing, I was delighted to find a copy of her latest novel, the only one, except for her children's book Tumble Tower, that I haven't yet read, in the Herriott Hospice Homecare charity shop in Northallerton on Tuesday,! That they were selling all their paperbacks at Four for a Pound was an added bonus - and an excuse to find another three to bring home with me!
Our reading group has it on the programme for July - but I don't know that I can wait that long ....
Note: This copy does not have a big red label, as illustrated above - just lots of BookCrossing stickers!

Dorothy, age 43, was killed when the oak tree in their back garden crashed onto the house, destroying the porch where she was sitting.
The story is narrated by grieving widower Aaron, 8 years her junior, editor in the family publishing business, slightly in awe of the no-nonsense doctor he'd married.
11 months after her death, she starts reappearing ....
I loved this latest novel by one of my favourite modern authors, couldn't put it down and read it all within a few hours.
Despite its theme, it's not sad by any means - it's gently amusing and I turned the last page with an optimistic smile on my face :-)
Recommended!

As I read this at the beginning of the month, I decided to read it again before our reading group discussion this week. I loved it the first time - and I loved it just as much the second time! I think I might now be a little in love with Aaron ....

Thanks for this Nu-Knees. I'm not sure if I've read any Anne Tyler before. I know you loved this so I'm looking forward to giving it a go in due course. Although my To Be Read shelf is growing at approximately 2 - 3 time my reading rate at the moment :-/

I quite liked this. Understated, spare prose. I felt like I had plenty of time to reflect on the characters without things moving on too quickly. It has a lightness of touch which I appreciated. I didn't love it. If it had been set closer to home I might have loved it. It's a closely observed book about American suburban life, which is probably more well suited to an American audience in my opinion. Good though.

Really liked this book, few marks down because I'm not a fan of neat & tidy endings! Will definitely read another Anne Tyler in future
