(different cover) As an occasional reader and fan of Ann Tyler I was pleased to find this on the Coffee Link floor-to-ceiling bookshelf. Having to re-register because of a lost number thingy...so here it is :)

(10/01/16) When I come back to Anne Tyler, in this case after a break of several years, it’s to a familiar, hypnotic & gentle place. A Tyler character – man or woman – is typically a middle-aged working- or middle class Baltimore resident, tinged with melancholy as they pass through life’s quiet battles. Jeremy Pauling is just an individual, although he’s also touched by some unnamed problems, definitely some agoraphobia, possibly autistic or similar. Despite, and maybe because of this, he seems to attract carers; a devoted mother and sister, wife, and various others in the ramshackle guest house where he lives his whole life. A quiet, almost mute artist, he seems to be tolerated and defined because of his otherness.

Also typical Tyler not a lot happens! However the journey is inevitably a rewarding, poetic, sad yet uplifting study of a life.
