An interesting read, and I learnt a lot about the gold rush era in San Francisco (assuming at least some of the information provided is correct). Having been to San Francisco for a holiday I could see how the various parts of the city were created, there is still a very vibrant Chinatown and then you turn the corner and you're in little Italy.
The story has an awful lot of improbabilities to it, but I enjoyed the characters and story.

If you aren't familiar with Bookcrossing, take a few minutes to check out this very cool site. Bookcrossers LOVE books, and more than anything, they love to read books and then set them free for other people to find and enjoy. I would love it if you would leave a journal entry -- you can say where you found the book or how you liked it when you read it.
Passed to -tui- while visiting.
This is a book about adventure and education, of the less formal nature, which educates the reader about the promises and pitfalls of "running away from home", something we probably all wish we had the courage to do, at least once.
