Klappentext
In Around the World in 80 Days we join Michael Palin on the first of his great adventures. Following in the footsteps of the fictional Phileas Fogg, Palin struggles to keep to Jules Verne's imaginary hectic schedule in the face of delays, seasickness and the elements.
In a journey spanning more than ten seas and four continents, Palin endures being attacked by a trouser-eating cockatoo in Hong Kong, drinking snake bladder liqueur in China, and taking part in a bizarre and humiliating initiation ceremony to mark the crossing of the Date Line.
In Around the World in 80 Days Palin recounts his travels in his characteristically engaging and charming style, making this compelling reading for armchair and actual travellers alike.

Way back when, I rather enjoyed the tv programme, so I'm confident the book will be worthwhile, too.

I have no idea how I can construe a connection to Yorkshire Day (Does Michael Palin have family up North? Did he pass through there?), but this book is going to Canada in celebration of Yorkshire Day anyway!

My goodness, I am so lucky! I had no idea Michael Palin actually IS from Yorkshire! So there, Yorkshire Day exchange saved. :)

A charming and easy read that wouldn't fail to entertain and distract even if you were stuck on a rolling container ship during a storm, this really is great travel writing.
Considering its mission of circumnavigating the globe in as speedy a fashion as is possible without resorting to air travel, there obviously is no room for in-depth exploration of exotic places, but the Jules Verne connection works out beautifully.
Apart from a journey around the world, this also works nicely as a document of time travel when read today: from the Yugoslavian freighter crew to the Desert Wind train and a grubby pre-Giuliani, WTC-crested New York City, many of the things Palin experienced are no more. Far from making this book seem aged, that even added to my enjoyment. Great fun!

What a wonderful surprise to find this wish list book in my mailbox today! I also watched Palin's series on TV and became instantly hooked. A few years ago, I found his book "Pole to Pole" and just LOVED IT!! Thank you so much for your thoughtfulness, Linguistkris, I have a feeling that it won't stay on my TBR pile for very long.
I never knew that Michael Palin's was from Yorkshire either, I will have to remember that for next year!

Today, I pulled Michael Palin off my TBR Mountain Range and I going to enjoy a rainy day, a great book, a hot cuppa Yorkshire Tea and the time to enjoy them both! Cheers my Bookcrossing friends!

I just closed this book for the last time and I am filled with the afterglow of another great story. Loved it! I laugh that it has taken me two months to read a 250 page book, but in my defence, it has been a beautiful summer and my garden looks amazing!
I have finished this just in time to tuck into this year’s Yorkshire Day package and send it back across the Atlantic. Thank you for sharing this great book with me!

I received Michael Palin's Book "Around The World In 80 Days" safely through my letterbox today from my Yorkshire Exchange partner. Thank You so much for sending it to me and I look forward to reading it.
Not only does Michael Palin come from Yorkshire, but he was born about 6 miles from where I live in Sheffield! I love his books and have watched the TV shows and yet I have not actually read this book!
