Journal Entry 3 by kuju from -- Somewhere in London 🤷‍♀️ , Greater London United Kingdom on Monday, February 2, 2004
Received from Georgie Shaw as part of the Australian Book Ring. As I'm about to depart for the UK in a couple of days I might have to send this book on its way to the next person and hope that it falls in my hands again another day. I really wish I had some time to read atm but I have been busy busy non stop and will be until I go away.

Journal Entry 4 by Ravenbear from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Tuesday, February 10, 2004
Received in the mail from kuju. I am looking forward to this as it is a book i have always meant to read.

Journal Entry 5 by jawin from Launceston, Tasmania Australia on Wednesday, May 26, 2004
Received this from ravenbear in the Great Australian Novel Book ring. Not sure if I am going to read it, as I have developed an intellectual aversion to reading books by this author. This is not really rational or fair, as I have not read anything of his before, I just can't get past the sensationalist press and almost fanatical fan base. I'll leave it a week or so and see how I feel.

Journal Entry 6 by jawin from Launceston, Tasmania Australia on Wednesday, October 13, 2004
I couldn't bring myself to read this, so I am passing along to Ravenbear when we catch up for lunch tomorrow.

Journal Entry 7 by Ravenbear from Brisbane, Queensland Australia on Friday, October 29, 2004
I received this from Kuju before she headed off o.s. I didn't read it, having a ton on my plate at the time...I still have, but what the heck...received it from Jawin yesterday at lunch so I will take a bit of time, but will read it before sending it on its way again.

Journal Entry 8 by Ravenbear at Book Relay in Book Relay, A Book Relay -- Controlled Releases on Thursday, December 9, 2004
Released on Thursday, December 09, 2004 at about 6:00:00 PM BX time (GMT-06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) at mail in Fellow Bookcrosser, A Book Relay Controlled Releases.

RELEASE NOTES:

I have tried to read this, but just can't get into it, so I am sending it off to FushMush today. I don't know why I can't get into it, but have now given it a go twice, and start it, but just can't bring myself to keep turning pages...so it might as well be read elsewhere by someone who may appreciate it.

Journal Entry 9 by fushmush from Sydney CBD, New South Wales Australia on Friday, April 8, 2005
Can't remember saying yes to this one. I've already read it and I have too many bookrays on my pile atm to consider re-reading. I will try and send it on as soon as possible.

This is actually a really good book. I think it's Bryce Courtenay's one and only good book. I've read some of his other books and have since given up because they are horrible. Don't judge the Power of One on the strength of his other novels.

Update: Both Bookfrog and MeganH indicated they would like to read this. Will pass to Bookfrog next week.

Journal Entry 10 by BookFrog from Albion Park, New South Wales Australia on Friday, May 6, 2005
Huh doesn't Georgie-shaw like me anymore, I'm not on the above list as being part of the GABR. *sniff* anyway... I'm like jawin have an apathy and an aversion towards Bryce Courtney but two people have recommended it so I will give it ago after my other books are finished. Oh wait no that's 3 books I am currently reading.

Journal Entry 11 by BookFrog from Albion Park, New South Wales Australia on Saturday, December 3, 2005
I moved and this book got buried in a box and refound. I haven't got around to reading it and I am moving again so time to send it on.

Journal Entry 12 by BookFrog from Albion Park, New South Wales Australia on Friday, December 23, 2005
While trying to work out who was next on this ring I started the book and couldn't wait to finish. Not as in the couldn't wait to get it over and done with - I would have just given up.

This surprised me - I actually did enjoy this book. You were right FushMush - I was like jawin - I had a not rational dislike of this author and all the publicity of the book and film.

I thought about this book when I wasn't reading it and wanted to know what happened next when it finished.

Peekay had two defining moments in his life - the bullying he received as a young boy at boarding school - an english boy at an afrikaaner school and his second was meeting a boxer who gave him a new name and something to strive for and that is what his life is done. Spent striving so he will never be bullied again.

This traces his life from the age of 5 to about 19 - just before he heads off to Oxford to study law.

I will recommend this to others. Now to find out who is next.

This came in the mail a long, very long time ago and made it back onto my shelf and I forgot entirely about journalling to say it had been safely received - thanks Bookfrog!
