This book enjoyed a brief stop in San Jose, CA before continuing its travels in the Asian Themed Bookbox!
I found this one in the Asian Themed Bookbox. I noticed the notes comparing this book to Amy Tan's stories. I love Amy Tan's work so I'm going to give this one a try. Thanks so much for sharing!
I read this a few months ago and just realized I never made a journal entry. The story tells the tale of two step-sisters of different ethnic backgrounds. They were close growing up but life events separated them. 17 years later, they reunite, having to re-establish their relationship and get past the awkwardness caused by the years apart. I thought it was beautifully written but a bit sad in places. Worth reading if you enjoy moving stories without a lot of action.
I am putting this book into AlterEgoZoe's Asian Themed Bookbox. Happy Travels!

CONTROLLED RELEASE NOTES:
Putting into Imawin2's shrinking book box. Oops, never wrote about the book itself. This is not usually my kind of book: about emotional growth and change, not much about the characters' roles out in the world. So, it ended up feeling a little claustrophobic at times. The author loves the Boston area, and it has an interesting role in the book. Perhaps the biggest challenge is to understand how different a woman's life in Japan who was born in the late 1930's could be from our lives now in the U.S., and how the past and present mingle in our emotional lives.
Selected to keep from imawinn2's shrinking book box.
