This is a fantastic book by a fantastic author, and I had to share them with everyone. This is the first in a series about a wizard in Chicago named Harry Dresden, who is constantly having a bad day. In this book, he is called in by the Chicago PD because of a double homicide that was obviously committed through magic, and they need his help to figure it out. Really a good read!

A really fun reading experience. I enjoyed this opening tale in the story of Harry Dresden, Wizard at large. With lots of preternatural critters its reminiscent of the Laurell K. Hamilton series but it is not deriviative and stands on its own merits. The books are in beautiful condition though and I was almost hesitant to be the first to open the pages and ruin that perfection;-) Notice I said almost... I should have the rest of the series done and in the mail to BrynnSC by Friday Jan. 30th...I'll journal again when I get back from the Post Office that day.

I like the way Butcher defines magic and it's limits. He has a nice writing style and keeps the story flowing. Harry is just a normal, down on his luck kinda guy. He's not all powerful and uses magic only when necessary. He has a history that is just hinted at in this book that piques your curiousity. It's a good first book that makes you want to pick up the next one. And the series only gets better!

"Kids. You gotta love them. I adore children. A little salt, a squeeze of lemon-perfect"

Got the series in the mail. Envelope was torn & I was afraid one might be missing, but all 5 books were in there.
I'll journal the other 4 as they are read, that way I can indicate when they are being mailed.
I just wanted to post here that all 5 have been received.

Absolutely loved this, couldn't put it down. Starting #2 after I post this. Work has been slow so I should be done with the series this weekend!

After almost a year with Vicki9170, this book (the first of five) has finally turned up. I'd given up hope!

I'm really looking forward to this series of books, and will start Storm Front tonight.

Thank you BountifulPots!

This is not a great work of literature. It is also not particularly well plotted.

But I loved it!

I inhaled Storm Front almost overnight, and am already nearing the end of Fool Moon.

I am feeling slightly concerned for Harry, however. I’m not sure how much more of a battering the poor chap can take!

Sorry for the late journal about the arrival of this set of ring books but they just came when I was on holiday... Coming back I was so busy I forgot for another 2 days but managed to read the first volume on my last off-day yesterday.
I quite enjoyed the character of Harry and the idea of the modern unusual setting and the mystical murder mystery, although I think the book is rather biased towards the hero - with the amount of battering he had he should have been dead, wizard or no... Will be starting Fool Moon tonight.

Enjoyed this, even though wizardry isn't my favourite storyline (never managed to get into the other Harry). Not sure I'll stay the course for the series, but I'll keep going to see how things shape up !

Will get this off in the mail with my next batch.
