Part memoir, part coming of age, part scientific study, this is a fascinating book. Sapolsky spent many years studying one baboon troop in Kenya. He was looking at a longitudinal study looking at stress factors in a social animal and their health.
We fly to Africa with Sapolsky as a young man, and watch as he gets to know the country, the animals, and the people of the area. We also are present as he clear sightedly looks at his own behaviors and expectations in a very foreign land as he comes to maturity.
I enjoyed his observations, his scientific triumphs, his callow wandering vacations, and the coming together of a good life.
Fly far little book!
