Like Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance, a modern classic, a cult novel in the making. A so it has proved to be. First published over 20 years ago, The Alchemist has sold over twenty million copies and recently celebrated two continuous years in the New York Times best-seller list.

The Alchemist was the first novel by Brazilian writer Paulo Coelho. It is a modern fable, the tale of Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd boy, who decides to follow his dreams.

Santiago learns to read the symbols, how to communicate with the Soul of the World.

We all can follow our dreams, but few show the courage of Santiago to follow our dreams.

July 2009, Paulo Coelho was running a workshop on The Alchemist.
