On the 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die List.
(Bought second-hand at TEARS Bookshop, Heathfield.)
A quick and easy read, but not because it is light or frivolous. Even though this is one of Graham Greene's earlier novels, the mastery is clearly evident. The story reads like a journalistic account of the build-up to the inevitable.
Such unique characters, such atmosphere! One emerges from the book as if woken from a trance.
I noticed there was no copy of this book in the 1001-library and felt that should be rectified.
Donated to the 1001-library to be included in the library of books on the combined 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die list.
