I throughly enjoyed this book and learnt a lot about Afghan culture. The book focuses on 5 very different woman living in Kabul. Sunny is an American who runs a coffee shop. Yasmina is a young widow pregnant with her dead husbands baby with no future who is taken in by Sunny, given a job and shelter and allows Yasmina to thrive in her new life. Halajan is an older lady who owns the building that the coffee shop is located in, she also works at the shop and becomes a mother figure to Yasmina. Candace and Isabel are both western women trying to make a difference in a war torn country and offer love and friendship to Sunny.
A complex book of love, war, bombs and unbreaking friendships.
A great read!
