I've had a long break from bookcrossing, but picking up this book inspired me to get back on the horse (hee hee). I came across it in a hotel when I was on holiday last week. I'd finished my book early and was desperate for something else to read, and found this among a small pile of "help yourself" books left by previous travellers. So I've decided to register it, to welcome it officially to bookcrossingdom!

Anyway, about the book...
Maybe I should entitle this review "chosen by a book" because I certainly didn't feel much like this book was chosen by me! Everything about the cover, the title, the subtitle ("how a broken horse fixed a broken heart") felt cheesy. But seeing that it was a memoir made me curious.
And, in fact, I really enjoyed it. It was interesting to hear about relationships and trust between humans and horses. And I liked the way the author used this one key event in her life as a porthole into her past and the transformation it had on her future.
Stylistically, I took issue with the confusion over dates when she jumped back and forth in time, and there were some cliched descriptions. But there were also some amazingly poignant moments, and unexpected humour too.

It's left me thinking about love and loss. And thinking more positively; that the love can endure even more than the loss.
