A wandering book -- the karma of literature!

Sebastian Rudd is a really fun character, an outrageous loner, defender of scumbags and of people who will otherwise be run over by the system. He gets himself into all kinds of trouble while handling some complex cases. I'd like to see him paired up in a story with David Baldacci's Amos Decker, who is also outrageous and does what he needs to do regardless of what everyone else thinks. One of the sub-plots I found most interesting was his defense of a homeowner who is arrested after his home is invaded by SWAT at 3am. They shoot his wife and he kills some of the cops because it's 3am and he doesn't know they are cops. It's a sad story -- he loses his wife, is convicted of killing cops, but the most unbelievable thing is that the police and the city can't admit they made a mistake and should never have invaded the home in the first place. A sad commentary, period. I'm very supportive of the police, I just think when a massive mistake is made, you have to own up. Sebastian Rudd will do almost whatever it takes to get his client a fair trial. He hates injustice and distrusts almost every institution and government agency. He is one of the wildest of Grisham's characters - this is a fun read. I didn't realize it's part of a series, but I think the next book has yet to be published.
