1st edition. The best modern account by two leading historians. Reveals that the English fleet had tompions on their cannon meaning they were mounted on trucks whereas the Spanish had their guns on large wheeled field carriages.

An interesting and detailed account which appears to have been meticulously researched.

Found this on the Table of Temptation. Looks very interesting.

I never realised that the Spanish guns were basically field guns with large wheels and carriage that goes with that type of gun, also that they sailed into battle with guns already loaded. I also learnt of how one of the Armada ships, not too badly damaged but low on supplies, docked at Tobermory on the Island of Mull and was given what she needed on the condition that soldiers were enlisted to help fight off a rival clan!

I thought this was a very well written book and wish I hadn't taken so long to get round to reading it.

It was good to meet you again Ardachy. It's about time this book left my hands, to give somebody else the pleasure of reading it.

Will be taking to a local LFL or book exchange. Not decided which one yet...
