It took me years to get around to this Pulitzer Prize winner. It gives a sense of how bad the Civil War was in the southern U.S., although it did not convince me that the character on which it is based would have made the choices shown in the book.

Overall well-constructed as a novel.

I just have a different sense of who Jo Marsh's father was, as well as a very different sense of who Bronson Alcott was.
