Nachtrag, 19. 11. 2018: Einer der wenigen Krimis, bei denen ich kurz vorm hauptverantwortlichen Ermittler die Auflösung erriet. Sowohl der Fall als die Ermittler gefielen mir gut, aber mit Ruth Rendells Sprache komme ich nicht klar. Das war mir einerseits stilistisch zu nüchtern und hatte andererseits streckenweise unnötige Längen.

Ich werde das Buch voraussichtlich auf einem der nächsten MeetUps wieder anbieten.

Update, 19. 11. 2018: One of the rare cases when I found out about the resolution moments before the person in charge of the investigation! I liked the general idea of the plot and I liked Chief Inspector Wexford, but I didn't warm to Ruth Rendell's style. It struck me rather prosaic while being lengthy at times.

I will offer the book at one of the next meetups.

As the book was still on the shelf at the meetup place two months later, I decided to take it to this year's convention in Mainz. Hopefully it will find a new reader there.
