From the flap:

"A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows."

I never buy new books for the full price, but this time I did, and I was super excited to read this. I must say that after all that I had anticipated this was a bit of a letdown. Don't get me wrong, it's definitely not bad, but not as good as I had hoped either. It's your usual YA book with fantasy elements in it. Also it was a bit predictable at times.

The photographs add a nice touch, but they weren't as creepy as I had hoped!

I'm turning this into a ray. Reading time is one month, but no worries if it takes a bit longer than that. The book is just under 3 cm thick and weighs 564 grams.

Oh, I am the only one in this ray (so far)! Well, I'll put it into my TBR -pile after one book, but I'm not making any promises ;) Thanks, duskiska!

This was a nice story, not that good what I expected, but OK. I also liked the photos and I must say those were quite creepy. Especially the one with Santa. And the Buss Driver (of course I looked at the photo first before reading the page next to it and didn't get what was happening there...). And the Girl whos photo was taken by the Mysterious Man. Maybe I shouldn't have read this in hospital. At night. All alone in my room...

Thanks for sharing this book! If there is no more participants in this ray, I'll send this on as a RABCK.

WOW! I'm the one who likes this book!
It took me years to start reading this, maybe just because my expectations were so high. And I wasn't disappointed.
Actually I have the same book in Finnish and after reading it in English I had to read two last chapters also in Finnish to be sure I got everything right (and Yes, I did :) ).
Many thanks Duskiska and Appelsiini for getting this!

The book is now with me, thanks! Can't wait to get into this one. I have no other YA fantasy fiction books on the shelf at the moment. And mystery is welcome.

I also liked this one. It was first a bit creepy but then turned more adventurous. I liked the atmosphere, narration, characters and photos - what a splendid idea! At some point I found that there was no need to have so many photos; those more eccentric ones would have been enough. But never mind that. It was good anyway!

One point reveived for the travelling challenge on the Finnish BC forum: Wales, the U.K.. Never been to Wales but I have travelled to England a couple of times.
