Chris Cleave again gives us an elegant, funny, passionate story about friendship, marriage, parenthood, tragedy, and redemption. This time, the setting is the upcoming London Olympics. Gold is the story of two women, Zoe and Kate, world-class cyclists who have been friends and rivals since their first day of elite training years ago. They have loved, fought, betrayed, forgiven, lost, consoled, triumphed, and grown up together. Now, on the eve of London 2012, their last Olympics, the two must compete for the one remaining spot on their team. In doing so, the women will be tested to their physical, mental and emotional limits. They will confront each other and their own mortality, and be asked to decide: What will you sacrifice for the people you love?
Taking to the September meet-up of Calgary BookCrossers, held at Cravings Market Restaurant.
Picked this up at the September Bookcrossing meeting
After reading Little Bee I had high expectations for this book. I found it dragged a bit and was skimming pages in the latter part to hurry up and finish it.
Brought this home from the June meet up at Cravings.
Well, this sure had me thinking about what people give up for achieving great things. Also about family relationships and how people can be so damaged by things that happen to them. That journey through can be a challenging one. Had some interesting twists.
I am taking this to the February meetup at Cravings to pass on to the next reader.
Given to me after a meeting that I didn't attend.
Returning to the owner to either be returned to circulation or to come home.
