The Graveyard Book

n this Newbery Medal-winning novel, Bod is an unusual boy who inhabits an unusual place—he's the only living resident of a graveyard. Raised from infancy by the ghosts, werewolves, and other cemetery denizens, Bod has learned the antiquated customs of his guardians' time as well as their ghostly teachings—such as the ability to Fade so mere mortals cannot see him.
Can a boy raised by ghosts face the wonders and terrors of the worlds of both the living and the dead? And then there are being such as ghouls that aren't really one thing or the other.

Picked up this book at the Calgary BookCrossing November meet-up. It's so weird that I haven't read a ton of Neil Gaiman's stuff. This will help to rectify that.
I can see why this won an award. Such a great story about growing up, but it also has ghosts and graveyards and creepy killers all named Jack. I had previously read chapter 4 in "M Is for Magic", and it was cool to see the rest of Bod's story. I liked the short story approach. Each chapter was a nice snippet of Bod's life. You don't need a huge interconnected narrative to tell a good tale.
Passing on this book to the next reader at the Calgary BookCrossing January meet-up.
Picked this up at the January meeting. We tied for our largest meeting ever with 17 BookCrossers in attendance. This one has been added to my book shelf.
I just can't seem to get into this one and have now forgotten what was happening so would have to start over. Instead I will pass it along.

Really enjoyed this book. The concept was great, it had a nice flow and was interested to see what would happen with the characters.
